No to Dubbing
Telugu Market undoubtedly presents a handsome opportunity for Tamil films and actors. However, Tamil actors often go for shortcuts and instead of creating a proper bilingual film, they prefer Telugu dubbing.
This has continued to generate a not-so-favorable response from Telugu audiences. Vijay and Sivakarthikeyan are the most recent examples of actors who couldn’t ace the Telugu market with dubbed films.
However, Dhanush’s Vaathi or Sir in Telugu changed the norm by being a bilingual film in Tamil and Telugu. Ditching the dubbing formula, Dhanush’s sir made it big into the Telugu market, earning as much as 14 crores on day 1.
The movie’s producers and directors are also from the Telugu film industry.
Dhanush’s 9-Year-old Mistake
By grabbing the chance to do Vaathi or Sir as a bilingual movie, Dhanush made up for a 9-year-old mistake.
Back in 2014, when Dhanush was riding success in the Telugu market with his dubbed movie Raghuvaran BTech, he was approached by many producers to do a movie in Telugu. But Dhanush, unbeknownst of the Telugu market potential, ended up declining all such offers.
With Sir movie, Dhanush has tapped into Telugu Market correctly. The direct Telugu language movie has brought Dhanush much closer to his Telugu fanbase.
