Veteran South Indian actor Sarath Babu passes away at 71

He was undergoing treatment for multi-organ damage at AIG Hospital, Hyderabad where he breathed his last today.

New Delhi: Veteran Tamil and Telugu actor Sarath Babu passed away on May 22 at the age of 71. He was undergoing treatment for multi-organ damage at AIG Hospital, Hyderabad where he breathed his last today. He was reportedly receiving treatment for age-related ailments in the hospital and his condition got serious before he passed away.

Earlier, there were rumours about his demise while he was still in the hospital. Fans and celebrities shared social media posts to pay condolences and later, Sarath Babu’s sister dismissed the rumours of his demise and said that he was recovering. Kamal Haasan was among the celebrities who fell for the rumours and deleted his tweet once the correct news came out.

His fans came forward to express grief after he passed and shared pictures and videos of the actor on social media.

Sarath Babu was born on 31 July 1951 in Amadalavalasa, Andhra Pradesh. He has appeared in 218 films and television series and apart from Tamil and Telugu films, Sarath Babu also acted in a few Hindi films.

He made his debut in 1973 with the film ‘Stree’ while he gained popularity in 1978 through K Balachander’s Tamil film ‘Nizhal Nijamagiradhu’ starring Kamal Haasan. The actor was last seen in Ramanan Purushothama’s mystery-thriller ‘Vasantha Mullai’ with Bobby Simha and Karishma Pardeshi. The film is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The veteran actor received eight state Nandi Awards and was widely loved for his supporting characters. His last film ‘Malli Pelli’ directed by M.S. Raju will release in cinemas on May 26.
