New Delhi: On Friday, January 27, veteran actress Jamuna departed this world at the age of 86.

Jamuna was hailed as somebody who captivated hearts via her work, said megastar Chiranjeevi. A tweet written in Telugu by the megastar reads, “It is tragic to hear of the demise of senior heroine Jamuna. The actress speaks several languages. Despite Telugu being her mother tongue, she had a lasting impression on the culture with a number of popular films “.

Mahesh Babu stated that he would never forget all of her legendary performances, in a tweet.

Jamuna was survived by a son and a daughter. She appeared in about 200 Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi films. On August 30, 1936, she was born in Hampi, Karnataka, but her parents, Nippani Srinivasa Rao and Kowsalya Devi, later relocated to Andhra Pradesh. She completed her elementary schooling at Duggirala in the Guntur area and performed on stage while still in school.

At the age of 16, Jamuna, whose true name was Jana Bai, made her screen debut in the Garikapari Rajarao-directed film Puttillu (1953). She gained attention due to LV Prasad’s Missiamma (1955). She had a supporting part in the movie, which featured NT Rama Rao, Savitri, and Akkineni Nageswara Rao in key roles. She played a diverse range of roles throughout the course of a four-decade career and shared the stage with other eminent performers of the day.
