New Delhi: Indian cricketing virtuoso Virat Kohli and his wife actress Anushka Sharma became proud parents for the second time on 15 February 2024. Sharing the cheerful news with their fans, the power couple, on Tuesday, took to Instagram and penned a heartfelt post in which they informed that they have been blessed with a baby boy.
The duo’s official statement read, “With abundant happiness and our hearts full of love, we are pleased to inform everyone that on 15th February, we welcomed our baby boy Akaay and Vamika’s little brother into this world. We seek your blessings and good wishes in this beautiful time in our lives. We request you to kindly respect our privacy at this time. Love and gratitude Virat and Anushka.”

Meanwhile, with gossip about Virat and Anushka’s second child Akaay circling across the internet, a large section of fans is talking about his birthplace & nationality. As per reports, there’s a strong buzz that the NH10 actress has given birth to Akaay not in India but in the British capital city London. This has also left many curious regarding the newborn’s nationality status & fans are wondering if Akaay is Indian or British.

According to the citizenship laws of the United Kingdom, a child can only inherit British citizenship if one or both of his parents holds citizenship of the country or has gained settled status by residing there for a considerable amount of time. This means that even if Akaay’s birthplace is London, he would still not gain UK citizenship directly. So does that make Akaay an Indian citizen? The answer to this is both Yes and No.
Although Virat Kohli’s son can’t be considered a British citizen as of now, it does not mean that he can never gain UK citizenship. As per the rules, Akaay can become qualified to become a British citizen if his parents Virat and Anushka formally apply for his registration as the same and he manages to live in the country until his age reaches 10 years. However, it is important to mention here that neither Kohli nor Anushka has so far said anything about their second child’s birthplace & the same is still a matter of speculation.
