‘Wasn’t sure if I could transform…’: Samantha Ruth Prabhu talks about rejecting ‘Shaakuntalam’ initially (WATCH)

In an interview with TV9, she said that when she got the offer, she had just completed shooting for ‘The Family Man 2’, where she played Raji.

New Delhi: Samantha Ruth Prabhu is coming up with a mythological film ‘Shaakuntalam’ and fans are really excited about the project. The actor, in an interview, revealed that she initially rejected the project. All of her fans would be happy to know that she eventually accepted the film where she seems to be no less than a princess.

In an interview with TV9, she said that when she got the offer, she had just completed shooting for ‘The Family Man 2’, where she played Raji. She said that Raji was different from Shakuntala in many ways. Shakuntala is a symbol of purity and innocence for her while Raji was about being gritty and real and the actor was not sure if she could transform into Shakuntala then.

She eventually accepted the film and talking about that she said that she has lived in a lot of fear in the last three years and Shakuntala faced all the hardships with dignity and grace. So, she decided to take up the role to confront her fears. She added that how she confronted her fear in the last three years describes her evolution as an actor.

Samantha describes her character as the closest she could get to play a ‘Disney princess’.

‘Shaakuntalam’ is the love story of Shakuntala and King Dushyant, which, as per the mythological stories, redefined India’s history as the country is named Bharat after their son. In the film, she plays Shakuntala, the daughter of Menaka and Viswamithra. The film is directed by Gunasekhar and stars Dev Mohan in the lead along with Samantha.

The film will be released in cinemas on April 14.
