‘We don’t need reboot…’: Potterheads react to HBO Max’s announcement of Harry Potter TV series

The show will feature an entirely new cast and each book will have its own season to make it a ‘faithful’ adaptation.

New Delhi: HBO Max announced a TV series adaptation of Harry Potter and shared a motion poster for the show. The show will feature an entirely new cast and each book will have its own season to make it a ‘faithful’ adaptation. Author JK Rowling has backed the show and and lauded Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of her books.

The motion poster released by HBO Max shows the name of the show written in the same script as in the books and the movies, and shows Hogwarts Castle behind the title.

While it was thought to be good news for Potterheads, fans did not like the fact that their favourite characters will be reprised and the stories are in a form being remade. People are also opposing the show following Rowling’s transphobic stand in the past.

Apart from the serious discourse around the series, the announcement was followed by a meme fest on social media.

Over the years, fans have developed immense love for Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, Emma Watson as Hermoine Granger and Rupert Grint as Ron Weasely. They probably do not want to see any other actor in the lead roles.

The first film in the Harry Potter saga was ‘Harry Potter and the Philospher’s Stone’ and it was released in 2001 while the last film ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2’ came back in 2011, while the first book was published in 1997.
