New Delhi: The 94th Academy Awards celebrated the love for cinema across the world. Besides, after a hiatus of three years, this year’s Oscars saw hosts namely comedian Amy Schumer, who will be joined by Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes. The evening was full of glam and laughter with a pinch of emotion and violence. Yes, violence! You read it right and it is making headlines since the time of the incident.
Something very unexpected happened in the Oscars 2022. Will Smith, who won the best actor award for the film ‘King Richard’ stormed up the stage and punched Chris Rock during the award ceremony.
Rock was up on the stage presenting the best documentary prize with a short comedy routine had cracked a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s tightly cropped hair that seemed to be similar to that of Demi Moore’s appearance in the film “G.I. Jane” and suggesting she appear in a sequel.
The tasteless joke didn’t go well with the actor as well as the others present there. After an awkward silence across the Dolby Theatre, Smith went up to Rock and slapped him, before returning to his seat alongside Jada and yelling at him.
“Keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth,” yelled Smith, forcing the producers of the show to beep out several seconds of the audio airing on television in the United States.
