World-class Spanish series Money Heist will have its Korean remake on Netflix: Here’s what you need to know

La Casa de Papel, popularly known as Money Heist is the biggest hit of non-English web series of all time. With its jaw-dropping appeal for the very first season, the Spanish show has telecasted its last season claiming it to be the biggest heist in the world. Now the streamer, Netflix is all set to release a Korean remake of the series. Netflix confirmed the much-anticipated remake of Money Heist and released its first teaser.

Netflix has titled the series, ‘Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area’ which will feature Korean stars such as Jun Jong-seo, Yoo Ji-tae and Squid Game star Park Hae-soo among others. Money Heist is the most viewed series on Netflix. Like the Spanish one, the Korean remake will behold all the excitement of the heist mastermind by the Professor and assisted by the gang. The eight popular members of the gang include Berlin (Park Hae-soo), Tokyo (Jun Jong-seo), Moscow (Lee Won-jong), Denver (Kim Ji-hun), Nairobi (Jang Yoon-ju), Rio (Lee Hyun-woo), Helsinki (Kim Ji-hoon), and Oslo (Lee Kyu-ho). Yoo Ji plays the role of the Professor.

The teaser shows Yoo Ji-tea standing in front of a wall where masks are hung including a traditional Korean mask and the Spanish Salvador Dali mask from the original series. It then shifts to introduce the members of the gang one by one.

The Korean adaptation will narrate the story of a strategist and his gang who are on a mission to carry out an unprecedented heist in the Korean peninsula. The story has unexpected twists and with the gang of thieves facing numerous challenges. The audiences are keen to know about the meaning and the background of the title Joint Economic Area.

The Korean remake of Money Heist is directed by Kim Hong-sun and written by Ryu Yong-jae, Kim Hwan-chae, and Choe Sung-jun. Currently, the release date is not revealed by the makers.
