New Delhi: Nandita Das’ third directorial Zwigato has taken the internet by storm as it is all set to hit the theaters on 17th March.
The movie which earned massive appreciation from the critics at the Busan International Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival in 2022, stars much-loved comedian Kapil Sharma.
Kapil Sharma being cast as the protagonist in the Dramedy took many by surprise. In a recent interview, Nandita Das revealed that Kapil Sharma was the best fit to play the role of Aam Aadmi.
Nandita told ANI that she didn’t know much about Kapil Sharma and hadn’t watched his show. It was when she saw a video of him at an award show that he caught her eye. Nandita said, “Kapil Aam Admi ki trah hai..His language and his gestures”!
Talking about the film, Nandita said she choose this subject because nowadays common man’s stories aren’t shown much in movies.
Zwigato, as the name suggests is based on the struggles of a food delivery boy. The drama-comedy was initially just a 20 min short film project but later Nandita decided to make a full-length feature film.
In another interview, Nandita also shared her experience of working with Kapil Sharma. There were times when the actor-comedian was late on the sets. But Kapil’s childlike apologies melted away her anger.
Besides Kapil Sharma, Shahana Goswami plays a pivotal role in the movie. Zwigato is an emotional portrayal of a food delivery agent who is laid off from his job during the pandemic. It showcases the hardships he and his wife go through to meet their ends.
