Zwigato movie review: Lead actor Kapil Sharma works with a smile, leaves viewers with teary eyes

Nandita Das’s Zwigato conveys the tale of the working class, which we see every day but rarely see on the big screen.

New Delhi: Zwigato, set in the city of Bhubaneswar, Odisha focuses on Manas (Kapil Sharma), who is struggling to make a living as a food delivery man after losing his stable job at a factory. Manas, who moved from Jharkhand to Odisha in search of a better life, is now made responsible for feeding a family of five, including his wife Pratima (played by Shahana Goswami), their two children, and his sick mother, all while keeping his extremely competitive job.

In a race to finish 10 deliveries per day in order to earn incentives, Manas encounters a variety of situations, a few of which are also reported in the news. In the meantime, his wife works odd jobs to help. The terrible job market situation has a negative impact on him and his family. Nandita Das’s Zwigato conveys the tale of the working class, which we see every day but rarely see on the big screen.

Nandita, who co-wrote the movie with Samir Patil, draws you into her thoughtfully layered world and have you invested in the story almost immediately. On the surface, Nandita leads you to start believing that Zwigato is a straightforward, albeit serious, slice-of-life narrative. It serves as a gentle reminder that the delivery executives are, at the end of the day, people, causing you to reconsider your approach to them and, perhaps, even urging you to be a little kinder to them.

Actors Kapil Sharma and Shahana Goswami lend support to the writing. Although Kapil loses his captivating, humouristic side for the movie in order to play a severe, troubled delivery man, Nandita makes sure to give him a few lines to humour his humour. It did remind the viewers that even in the worst of circumstances, most individuals continue to make a joke or two to get by.
