10 incidents when liberal brigade misused ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan to create fake narrative

Lutyens lobby and liberal brigade must refrain from giving incidents like Ghaziabad a communal spin. Here are previous instances, when a normal crime was disseminated as ‘hate crime’.

New Delhi: The Ghaziabad incident, in which 6 people thrashed an elderly man, circulated on social media like wildfire. Police has lodged FIR against 6 people and is also set to book microblogging site and those spreading the video for instigating communal disharmony, said reports.

But, what’s worrying here is the Lutyens lobby and liberal brigade giving the incident a communal spin, when the police has called it to be a case of personal enmity.

In fact, this is not just a one-off case but on many occasions, the liberal gang has tried to use such occasion to build a fake narrative and also use the sacred ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan as a tool to demonise Hindus.

Ghaziabad incident - old man beaten

This lobby’s penchant for peddling lies to defame the majority community is no secret. Here, we have collated a list of 10 incidents when the Lutyens lobby has gone overboard in depicting any random crime as ‘hate crime’. The intention behind this has been to defame the ‘Jai Shri Ram’ chant and demonize the Hindu community.

Asif Khan murder case in Haryana

Last month, a Muslim youth Asif Khan was attacked by a group of men while he was returning home with his two cousins. He later succumbed to injuries. Haryana police ruled out any communal angle in the incident but what circulated on some media houses was that he was beaten because of his religion and he was also forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Maktoob Media, a Kerala-based portal claimed that Asif was ‘forced to chant Jai Shri Ram’. Sharjeel Usmani, the Newslaundry columnist used the incident to peddle hatred against the Hindu community. And, these liberals had no evidence to prove their claim. One of the witnesses had told police that the attackers were known to them, suggesting it to be a case of personal rivalry.

Row over ‘Jai Shri Ram’ written on walls of Telangana mosque

Tension among 2 communities flared up last month, after some members of Muslim community found ‘Jai Shri Ram’ inscribed on the walls of a mosque in Bhainsa area. The issue snowballed into a major controversy, prompting police to take charge of the situation.

While it was being blamed on Hindutva forces for furthering its agenda, the police investigation found it to be a case of mischievousness by 2 youths, who were Muslims.

One of the individuals were identified as Mohammed Abdul Kaeef and the other was a minor. Both the accused lived in the near vicinity of the Masjid. The police revealed that the minor boy wrote ‘Jai Shri Ram’ after being instructed to do the same by the older of the two.

Later, they also confessed to their crime, police said.

Cab driver lynched ‘for not chanting Jai Shri Ram’, Noida police busted claim

In September 2020, a cab driver named Aftab Alam had died after being attacked by a group of men. Leftist media latched on the news and gae a communal angle, claiming that he was lynched to death by a communal mob after forcing him to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

A couple of news websites including TheWire and Amar Ujala claimed that Aftab Alam was made to chant Jai Shri Ram.

However, it turned out to be fake narrative as the Noida Police busted it. It confirmed that the audio recording of the victim showed no such crime and he was not asked to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

Truth behind Nepali man chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’

It happened in July 2020, when a Nepali man was tonsured and allegedly forced to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. The issue created a storm on social media. Left-leaning media outlets blamed it on Hindutva forces but in reality, it turned out to be a pre-planned agenda to create unrest.

Nepali youth , identified as Dharmendra Singh was told that his services are required for a couple of hours at Ganga Ghat. He was told that there is some event where he would have tonsure his head and chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. For his services, he would be given Rs. 1000.

Chandauli case: Muslim boy set himself on fire

In July 2019, a 17-year-old boy named Khalid Ansari allegedly set himself on fire in a dargah. Some claimed that the boy was set ablaze forcibly for not agreeing to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’. After the boy succumbed to injuries, the national media went hyperbolic over his death, claiming it to be a hate crime by Hindutva forces.

However, the Police, after investigating the case and examining the CCTV footage and talking to eyewitnesses concluded that Khalid himself had set himself on fire.

Faking the slogan for recognition in minority community

On July 23, 2019, a person named Sheikh Aamer got a case lodged in the police station. His claim was that he was forced to chant Jai Shri Ram slogan by 4 youths who bullied and forced him to do so. The incident grabbed national headlines and created storm also.

But, barely a day later after filing the complaint, he turned back on his complaint. Aamer conceded that he framed a fabricated story of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogan being enforced on him to raise his stature among his community members.

‘Hate crime’ in Bhagpat which never was

In 2019 only, a couple of outlets reported about the assault of Imam (Muslim cleric) called Imlaq-Ur-Rehman and how he was forced to chant Jai Shri Ram. The report also mentioned that his beard was pulled by the assailants.

However, the claim was trashed by Baghpat SP who asserted that Imam Imlaq-Ur-Rehman was not made to chant Jai Shri Ram and there was no religious undertone to assault. He asserted that this was a case of a petty brawl between some men and the Imam.

Fake report: Madarsa teacher hit by a car for refusing to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’

On June 21, 2019, a madarsa teacher in Delhi named Mohammed Momin alleged that he was allegedly abused and then run over by the car as he refused to chant Hindu religious slogans at Rohini Sector. However, an eyewitness at the spot trashed the claims. Police investigation also, in its preliminary investigation, did not substantiate the allegations.

Telangana man beaten for not chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’

In 2019 only, a former AIMIM leader claimed that a Muslim man was beaten up in Karimnagar, Telangana. His alleged fault was that he wasn’t ready to chant ‘Jai Shri Ram’.

The claim was refuted by Telangana police. Commissioner of Police, Karimnagar, Telangana, had also posted a video of the Muslim man where he clarified that he was beaten up over a personal issue and there was no communal side to it.
