
New Delhi: At least seven people were killed and several others were injured after a huge tree fell on following heavy rainfall in Maharashtra’s Akola district.
The incident took place in Paras village of Balapur tehsil on Sunday evening when a religious ceremony was underway in front of a temple at around 7pm on Sunday.
The neem tree fell on a tin shed after where several devotees were taking shelter after heavy rainfall, and strong winds.
After the tree fell, more than 40 people were burried under the shed and several sustained injuries while seven people lost their lives. Five people who were injured in the incident is undergoing treatment in Akola Medical College
Soon after the incident, the police teams and ambulances had rushed to the spot and started the rescue operation and relief work. JCB machines were also used to lift the broken tree and the collapsed shed.

Devendra Fadnavis, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister condoled the deaths and said that the state CM Eknath Shinde-led Maharashtra government will provide financial assistance to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.
