New Delhi: The Mercedes-Benz cars are award-winning cars known for their innovative features that provide “convenience and safety on road”. Their 2022 Mercedes-Benz-E-class also won an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. Keeping the same in mind, it is ironic how many times Mercedes has been involved in brutal even fatal accidents. Especially this year as it came in limelight with the accident of Cyrus Mistry in September this year and now with the shocking accident of Rishabh Pant.
Here, are 5 accidents this year that involved a Mercedes car:
Rishabh Pant
The adored keeper-batsman, Rishabh Pant was in a car accident today morning on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. It was reported that his car, a Mercedes-Benz SUV turned into a ball of fire. Offering explanation reports say that he had a “history of speeding” and that he fell asleep at the wheel and therefore crashed with the divider. The rescuers and doctors claimed that the accident was near-fatal and it is lucky that the cricketer survived it. He is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Dehradun.
Cyrus Mistry
The former Tata Sons chairman, Cyrus Mistry went through a tragic car accident in September this year that he succumbed to. Also a Mercedes-Benz SUV, among the four people that were present in the car, 2 died and 2 were gravely injured. In a case similar to Rishabh, the luxury carmakers claimed that the car was at 100kmph five seconds before the accident as reported by NDTV.
Prahlad Modi
Brother of PM Narendra Modi, Prahlad Modi along with his wife, son, daughter-in-law and grandson went through an accident involving again, a Mercedes-Benz SUV. The accident took place near Mysuru in Karnataka on 27th December, when the car hit a divider around 2 in the afternoon. The police reporting on the scene of the accident said that the car wasn’t speeding but it lost control and hit the divider. The mentioned speed of the car was around 40-50kmph.
Vinod and Krishna Solanki
In February of 2022, five youths driving a Mercedes Sedan crashed into a truck near the Delhi Cantonment area during the early hours. Two were killed in this accident, Vinod and Krishna Solanki while the other three, Nitin, Jitendra and Karan Bharadwaj got severely injured. It was reported that the front half of the sedan was completely destroyed and while the airbags did get deployed they couldn’t protect the cabin from impact. All five were residents of Palam in southwest Delhi and were traveling back from a wedding in Faridabad.
Nikhil Chaudhary
Mercedes CLA belonging to Nikhil Chaudhary, a Delhi resident crashed after he lost control of the car and immediately caught fire. Nikhil explained to the authorities that an animal came in front of the car which caused him to lose control. He and his friend had to escape through one of the windows to save themselves after the fire engulfed the car. The Delhi resident said that he had bought the car just 10 days before the accident.
