7 MLAs of Goa Congress miss party meet, may join BJP soon: Reports

Seven MLAs of the Congress party in Goa missed the party meeting today. 

New Delhi: Seven MLAs of the Congress party in Goa missed the party meeting today. It is rumoured that they may soon the BJP in the state. The latest development came just a day before the two-week Budget session in Goa. However, the Congress dismissed any rift within the party.

On rumours of joining BJP of the Congress MLAs, Goa Congress Chief Amit Patkar blamed the ruling BJP, according to the media reports.

Notably, the notification for election to the post of Deputy Speaker was cancelled by Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar. The election was scheduled to be held on Tuesday.

BJP dominates Goa Assembly 

In Goa, the BJP has over 20 MLAs in the 40 members of the assembly while Congress has only 11 legislatures.

The ruling party enjoy a majority as it also has the support of 3 MLAs of the Mahrashtrawadi Gomantak Party and 2 MLAs of Independent or non-partisan politician.
