New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced that all children who have lost both parents or guardians due to COVID-19 will be supported under the ‘PM-CARES for Children’ scheme.
The PM CARES will create a corpus of Rs 10 lakh for each child and when he or she attains 18 years of age, they will get this money.
“This corpus will be used to give a monthly financial support/ stipend from 18 years of age, for the next five years to take care of his or her personal requirements during the period of higher education and on reaching the age of 23 years, he or she will get the corpus amount as one lump-sum for personal and professional use,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.
BJP ruled states pledge to support orphaned children
Along with Centre, most BJP ruled states have also announced their own schemes for COVID affected children which includes providing stipend till they attain 18 years of age. If there are no guardians in the family, the state governments will take care of them in child care centres.
The scheme will be implemented on May 30, the day when NDA govt led by PM Modi completes 7 years in office.
Haryana to provide 2,500 monthly stipend till 18 years
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar announced that financial assistance will be provided to family of children who lost their parents due to Covid. Many other schemes for Covid affected children are covered under ‘Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana.’

UP: Laptops for students, Rs 1.01 lakh assistance for bride’s marriages
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanth pledged to provide laptops and tablets to students who lost their parents in the pandemic. He also announced that girl child will be provided with financial assistance of Rs 1.01 lakh when they get married.

Assam launches Sishu Sewa Achoni
Newly elected Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma was also quick to announce the welfare scheme for children affected by Covid-19.
In a press conference, the Assam CM announced Mukhyamantri Sishu Sewa Achoni, under which education expenses and other requirements of children will be taken care of.

Arunachal’s Bal Seva Scheme for orphan child
Arunachal CM Prema Khandu also announced Chief Minister Bal Seva scheme for children losing their parents to Coronavirus.

“Financial assistance to Guardians/Caretaker & assistance to orphan child of Rs 2000 per child/month under the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015 and Child Protection Services (CPS) Scheme guidelines to be extended with an additional amount of Rs 1500 per child/ month,” CM said.

Karnataka announces Rs 3,500 stipend per month
Karnataka CM Yeddiyurappa announced Bal Seva scheme, under which Rs 3500/month financial assistance will be given to guardians/caretakers.

Meanwhile, to commemorate the 7th anniversary of Modi government, BJP cadres are set to participate in ‘seva karya’ in about 1 lakh villages of the country.
BJP president JP Nadda as directed all party leaders and elected representatives, including Union and State Ministers, to take part in social activities across one lakh villages in the country on May 30 – the seven-year anniversary of the government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
