Aam Aadmi Party’s Shelly Oberoi elected as the new mayor of Delhi

Shelly Oberoi becomes the new mayor of Delhi.

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) Shelly Oberoi has been elected as the new mayor of Delhi today with 150 votes.

Shelly Oberoi defeated Bhartiya Janata Party’s Rekha Gupta by 34 votes.

The voting for selecting the new Delhi Mayor started at around 11.30 am and went on for over 2 hours.

A total of 10 nominated MPs, 14 nominated MLAs and 241 elected councillors out of 250 voted in the mayoral election.

Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia took to Twitter to congratulate Shelly Oberoi for winning the mayoral election.

Shelly was elected as the Delhi Mayor after last three attempts were failed due to the political bickering between the Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party.

For the first time, the civic centre met on January 6, second on January 24 and last on February 6.

The Delhi municipal elections were held on December 4 and result was announced on December 7 where Aam Aadmi Party managed to win  134 seats out of 250.
