AAP claims highest enrolment in 2022, NCPCR chairperson slams failure in filling EWS quota in Delhi govt schools

The Directorate of Education (DoE) data shows that nearly 17.7 lakh students were enrolled in 2021, while data for this year is 18,01,345

New Delhi: National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) chairperson Priyank Kanoongo slammed Arvind Kejriwal for his alleged failure in getting the students of Economically Weaker Class (EWS) to get enrolled in private schools in the national capital.

On Sunday, Aam Admi Party (AAP) chief Kejriwal shared a new article via his official Twitter account with caption, “Now many people in Delhi are taking their children out of private schools and admitting them to government schools”.

The news piece shared by Kejriwal consists of a report which claims that the city has seen the highest enrolment this year with over 18 lakh students admitted into 1043 institutes, an increase of 30000 as compared to the previous year’s enrolments.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) data shows that nearly 17.7 lakh students were enrolled in 2021, while a total of 18,01,345 students have enrolled themselves this year.

The report further suggests that the admissions steadily rose between 209-10 and 2013-14 academic session, but have seen a sharp dip in the last several years.

Priyank Kanoongo slammed Kejriwal’s claims on Sunday as he criticised the ruling AAP government, alleging that it failed to get economically weaker students enrolled into the private schools of the city under the EWS quota, and hence leaving no alternative for them to take admission in the goverment schools.

Replying to Kejriwal on microbbloging site, Kanoongo wrote, “Because, due to the failure of the Delhi government to admit children in all EWS category seats in private schools, the poor children have ran out of options”.
