AAP set to create history in Punjab, headed for 1st govt in state, predicts Axis My India Exit Poll

Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP is all set to bag landslide majority in the Punjab Assembly Elections, setting the stage for major changeover in the border state.

New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is headed for forming its first state government in Punjab. According to India Today-Axis My India exit poll, Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP is all set to bag landslide majority in the Punjab Assembly Elections, setting the stage for major changeover in the border state.

Till now, the power has alternated between Akalis & Congress party. Akali Dal & the BJP are seen getting reduced to single digits.

According to Axis My India projections, the AAP is seen winning 41% votes which would eventually result into about 76-90 seats in the 117 member Assembly.

BJP along with Akali Dal have been singed by the year-long farmer protests as the latter doesn’t seem to have forgiven the saffron party for imposition of farm laws.

The ruling party Congress is seen getting reduced to second spot, getting 23% vote share, which would result in 9-31 seats.

Amarinder Singh, who projected himself as the only alternative to CM Channi, failed to show his charisma and his party Punjab Lok Congress is projected to win only 7% votes.

Elections in the state took place on February 20. It recorded 72% voter turnout as compared to 77.36% in 2017.
