‘Action will be taken…’: Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann reassures public about law & order after Amritpal Singh’s arrest

He also thanked the public for maintaining the peace while the police were searching for the Khalistani icon.

New Delhi: Waris Pande De chief Amritpal Singh was arrested from Moga, Punjab on April 23 and CM Bhagwant Mann addressed the media to reassure the public about the law and order situation in the state. He stated that it had been 35 days and Amritpal was arrested today. He also thanked the public for maintaining the peace while the police were searching for the Khalistani icon.

CM Mann said that action will be taken against those who try to disrupt the peace and law and that his government does not do “vendetta politics”. He said that some anti-social elements were trying to disturb the peace in the state and police took action as soon as possible.

He said that he did not sleep the whole night and was taking updates in every half-and-hour and he is ready to sacrifice his sleep so that the public can sleep safely.

Talking about why the action came so late, he mentioned that police caught a few of the anti-social miscreants on March 18 and could have gone further but they did not want any bloodshed.

About the Ajnala incident, he said that some people used Guru Granth Sahib as a shield to enter the police station and he instructed the DGP that there should be no harm to the dignity of the Holy book. He lauded the police personnel who got injured in the incident to protect the dignity of Guru Granth Sahib.

CM Mann acknowledged that there have been incidents to disrupt peace in Punjab but the people have always withheld such attempts. He added that the people of Punjab have contributed to the freedom struggle and a few days ago four of Punjab’s soldiers were martyred in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a cleric of Gurudwara, Amritpal Singh surrendered at the Rodewal Gurudwara while IGP Sukhchain Singh Gill said that they arrested him as he was surrounded from all sides and had no way to escape. He is being taken to Dibrugarh under the National Security Act.
