Ahead of MCD by-polls, AAP’s Kalyanpuri candidate ‘in soup’ over election affidavit

Abhay Verma, BJP MLA from Laxmi Nagar has alleged that the AAP candidate from Kalyanpuri didn’t mention information about criminal cases against him, in the election affidavit. He has also demanded cancellation of Dhirendra Kumar’s candidature from the Election Commissioner over ‘misleading’ affidavit.

New Delhi: A day ahead of MCD by-polls, AAP candidate Dhirendra Kumar from Kalyanpuri has apparently landed in trouble over claims that the former filed a ‘deceitful’ election affidavit. Gunning for the AAP candidate, BJP MLA Abhay Verma has alleged that the former didn’t disclose information about criminal cases against him in the election affidavit.

Five seats of Municipal Corporation of Delhi are due for by-polls on February 28.

Reports suggest that a complaint has also been filed with Delhi Police and EC office by a local BJP worker Dalip Kumar. In the complaint, BJP worker has accused Dhirender Kumar of concealing information about a criminal case against him and the punishment he was awarded for the same. These details are not in his election affidavit, reported a leading portal quoting the BJP leader.

MCD by-polls, seen as semi-final to 2022 MCD elections

In any election be it local body polls, Assembly or General Elections, it is mandatory to disclose all personal information in the election affidavit.

If BJP legislator’s claims are ascertained, it will not only put AAP nominee’s candidate in peril but will also create embarrassment for the party.

Next Municipal Elections in Delhi are scheduled for 2022 and this by-polls will give a peek into how BJP and AAP are placed against each other.
