Ankita Bhandari murder: Dhami govt announces Rs 25 lakh financial help, promises stern punishment for perpetrators

The gruesome murder of young resort receptionist rocked the Devbhoomi and the locals erupted in anger demanding nothing less than death penalty for the accused.

New Delhi: Pushkar Dhami government on Wednesday announced Rs 25 lakh financial compensation for the family of Ankita Bhandari and also promised stringent punishment for her tormentors.

The gruesome murder of young resort receptionist rocked the Devbhoomi and the locals erupted in anger demanding nothing less than death penalty for the accused.

An SIT investigation is already underway in the murder with police scanning the CCTV footage & probing involvement of others if any. The Chief Minister also spoke to the father of victim and assured all possible assistance.

Dhami government has also promised stringent punishment for the perpetrators and said that all steps are being taken to make it an exemplary punishment so that this serves as a deterrent in future.

Preparations are already underway to seek court’s nod for trial of the accused in a fast-track court so that accused are punished and Ankita’s family can take some heart from justice.

The 19 year old receptionist was allegedly abducted by the resort owner belonging to an influential political family and was murdered with a blunt object. Her body was recovered from Chilla canal lake, almost a week after she went missing from the resort.

The shameful incident led to big outpouring of anger and outrage on streets of Devbhoomi as locals protested strongly against the atrocity on the teen age girl. Locals also set the resort on fire from where Ankita went missing. The resort belonged to Pulkit Arya, son of a BJP leader.
