Earlier in the day, party veteran Ghulam Nabi Azad resigned from all posts of the party ahead of organisational elections and accused the leadership of committing “fraud” in the party in name of “sham” internal polls.
In his resignation letter, Azad tore into Rahul Gandhi and alleged that all key decisions in the party were being taken by Gandhi’s security guards and personal assistants.
In the stinging letter, Azad also claimed that “remote control model” had demolished the institutional integrity of the Congress.
“All senior and experienced leaders were sidelined and the new coterie of inexperienced sycophants started running the affairs of the party,” he alleged.
Azad’s exit from the grand old party comes a day after young face Jaiveer Shergill announced quitting the party. Ghulam Nazi is the third Cong veteran to say goodbye to party in last few months, the other two being Kapil Sibal and Ashwani Kumar.
Azad is the latest in a series of high-profile leaders who exited Congress. Earlier, the exit of Kapil Sibal and Ashwani Kumar had jolted the Congress.
