Another jolt to Congress, Karnataka leader Brijesh Kalappa quits party

Kalappa’s exit from the party comes on back of many prominent leaders including Kapil Sibal and Hardik Patel quitting the party. A day ago, Kannada actor & former MLC Mukhyamantri Chandru quit party for being denied a nomination to Legislative Council.

New Delhi: In another setback to Congress party, senior leader in Karnataka unit Brijesh Kalappa resigned from the primary membership of the party on Tuesday. Being a Supreme Court lawyer, he was also the strong voice of party in TV debates & other public forums. He joined the grand old party in 1997.

In a missive to Sonia Gandhi, Kalappa wrote that he was quitting party because he was ‘lacking in passion’ in the recent past.
In his letter to Congress president, he wrote, “I have been representing the party in Hindi, English and Kannada TV channels (since the UPA years in 2013) for almost a decade, and have clocked 6,497 debates. Even at the worst of times in aftermath of 2014 and 2019 debacles, I have never felt enervated, and lacking in energy and enthusiasm.”

Hardik Patel

According to a leading portal, Kalappa is set to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Hardik Patel is set to join the BJP tomorrow, indicating that there is no end to woes of grand old party.

Congress party is already facing internal strife over allocation of Rajya Sabha tickets. Yesterday, Maharashtra Congress leader Ashish Deshmukh resigned as General Secy of MPCC over party’s RS picks. The party is already facing rumblings within for picking ‘outsiders’ from Rajasthan quota.

Kalappa recently tore into BJP leader KS Eshwarappa’s call for reclaiming all the temples and also slammed the saffron party for ‘creating unrest’ over Gyanvapi & Shahi Eidgah mosques in Uttar Pradesh. Mr Eshwarappa had said that “all 36,000 temples will be brought back to the Hindus”.
