Another setback to Congress, Jaiveer Shergill resigns as party’s national spokesperson

New Delhi: In another setback for Congress, party’s young leader Jaiveer Shergill on Wednesday resigned from the post of National Spokesperson.

The young, energetic Congress leader from Punjab sent his resignation letter to party president Sonia Gandhi and lamented about the ‘mushrooming’ of ‘sycophancy culture’ within the party and wrote how it was eroding party’s strength from inside.

“It pains me to say that decision-making is no longer for interests of public and country, rather it’s influenced by the self-serving interests of individuals indulging in sycophancy and consistently ignoring on-ground reality”, Shergill wrote in his resignation letter.

His resignation comes months after he was debarred from holding press conferences for past few months, a leading portal reported.

This comes just days after veteran Congress leader Anand Sharma quit as chairman of the party’s election committee for Himachal Pradesh.

Days ago, Ghulam Nabi Azad withdrew his name as the chairman of party’s campaign committee in Jammu & Kashmir.

Jaiveer Shergill is one of the youngest leaders of Congress party to present party’s stand and views on leading national news channels. He is also one of the youngest spokesperson of the party. He also has the distinction of being the youngest person to be appointed as Co-Chairman of the Congress Legal Cell for Punjab.
