One firearm, one knife & contraband substances found on him besides several ID cards of different agencies has been recovered from the suspect.

Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal has confirmed that the suspect was travelling in a car with police sticker on it.

Currently, he is being interrogated by city police & Bengal STF.

The security scare for Bengal Chief Minister comes on a day when Trinamool Congress is observing Martyrs day.

The incident has also sent security agencies in top gear as it comes just ahead of TMC preparing for major rally in the city today, to commemorate the historic day.

The rally is being organized at Esplanade in downtown Kolkata.

It was on this day in 1993 that 13 people were killed when Mamata Banerjee led a road rally demanding that identity cards be made mandatory for polling in elections. The 1993 killings, during the Left regime, created major political upheaval in the state and apparently set the stage for its outser from power.
