Asad Ahmed gunned down: How politicians & netizens reacted on UP STF encounter

The UPSTF team led by DySP Navendu and DySP Vimal at Jhansi did the operation and also recovered ‘sophisticated foreign-made weapons’ from them.

New Delhi: STF encountered Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad and Ghulam in Jhansi while they were absconding in the Umesh Pal murder case. There was a reward of Rs 5 lakhs for each of them. The UPSTF team led by DySP Navendu and DySP Vimal at Jhansi did the operation and also recovered ‘sophisticated foreign-made weapons’ from them.

Asad was the son of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, who was in the court attending his hearing in the case.

Reportedly, there was firing from both sides and Asad and Ghulam were killed in the encounter. Reacting to the news, Umesh Pal’s mother Shanti Devi called it a tribute to her son and lauded the action by STF.

Samajwadi Party’s official spokesperson Ameeque Jamei tweeted that an encounter is not justice, on the other hand, UP’s Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya congratulated STF for the action. People are reacting to the news on the internet and are speculating that it was bound to happen.

It is to be noted that while there is a section of society lauding an extra-judicial action, an encounter or any form of extra-judicial step cannot be seen as a replacemnet to Judiciary and the justice system set up by the Constitution of India.
