Jignesh was re-arrested on April 25 a few hours after getting bail by another court in a case related to Prime Minister Narender Modi.
It is said to be that Gujarat MLA tweeted against PM Modi.
Over the tweets of Mevani, an FIR was filed by an Assam BJP leader, Arup Kumar Dey under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy), section 153(A) (promoting enmity between two communities), 295(A), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and sections of the IT Act.
However, the tweets have been removed from Twitter with a message displaying that the tweets have been withheld in India based on a ”legal demand”.
Mevani criticised his arrest, saying it was motivated by a political vendetta. Mevani’s arrest was protested by the Assam state Congress unit.
