New Delhi: Following a firing incident along the Assam-Meghalaya border, miscreants in Shillong torched a traffic booth and attacked 3 police vehicles including a city bus near Civil Hospital during a candlelight protest called by some groups in protest against Nov22 violence where 6 persons were killed in a firing incident at Mukroh area.
According to reports, the protesters also hurled stones and petrol bombs at police forces who were deployed to control the siuation.

This incident took place near the Civil hospital (#Laban).
This is not the first time that such incidents have been reported, here local groups are above Govt .

Internet Suspended
Following this latest situation, the Meghalaya Government extended the suspension of mobile internet and data services in seven districts by another 48 hours.
The mobile internet services have been suspended in seven districts- Eastern West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi Hills Districts, West Khasi Hills, Ri – Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said Union Home Minister has assured inquiry to be constituted under a central agency. He said Law and order have been maintained in the state.
Sangma said, they are in touch with different stakeholders to ensure the safety of our people and that peace prevails.
He further said, in the next 2-3 days there is a need to watch the situation but nothing is closed as such.
