Assam Youth Cong leader turns extremist, joins banned outfit ULFA-1

Recently, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had admitted that close to 50 youths have joined the terror outfit. He had also appealed to people not to join the group which has been waging war against the state for its selfish motives.

New Delhi: In a big jolt for Congress party, a known leader of its Assam unit has joined an insurgent group United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA). The leader has been identified as Janardan Gogoi and is Vice-President of Tinsukia district youth Congress unit.

According to a leading daily, the Youth Congress leader announced this on his Facebook post on Sunday. Addressing the FB post to his wife, the Congress leader said that he has joined the banned outfit at one of its jungle hideout in Myanmar. Janardan Gogoi had left his home in Sadiya some days ago and with this announcement, he has left everyone stunned and flabbergasted including the Congress party.

The induction of a Congress leader reinforces the fact that the insurgent group has stepped up its membership drive and locals are indeed leaving their homes to join the outfit, led by Paresh Baruah.

Recently, Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had admitted that close to 50 youths have joined the terror outfit. He had also appealed to people not to join the group which has been waging war against the state for its selfish motives.

The 44-year-old Janardan Gogoi wrote in FB post, “Some people are conspiring to finish off the existence of the Assamese society. Today, Assamese people have become helpless in their own motherland. I cannot become a mere spectator to attempts of eradicating the Assamese society.”

Assam Police top officials, commenting on ULFA luring youths, accepted that the insurgent group is conducting a mass drive to hire more & more youths for its secessionist agenda.

Recently, the ULFA has taken to social media handles like Facebook & YouTube to hire the young and impressionable youths. The outlawed group is aiming at re-grouping and launching a fresh secessionist campaign against the state.
