New Delhi: Two people lost their lives today after an under-construction Metro pillar collapsed near Karnataka’s Bengaluru Nagavara area.
In the incident, a woman and her three-year-old son died, while the father and daughter received minor injuries.
According to reports, the incident is said to have occurred in the morning.
The Officials said the bridge collapsed when the couple was passing through the stretch on their motorbike with their twin children – a daughter and a son when the iron pillar crashed on them.
The victim has been identified as Tejasvani and her son Vihan who were rushed to a nearby hospital after the incident but died during the treatment.
Meanwhile, the woman’s husband Lohith and daughter are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Police also said the couple was wearing helmets when the incident happened.
The pillar which fell was made of metal rods and it was about 40 feet long.
Officer said a case has been registered and an investigation in this matter is underway.
Police also said a probe will also be launched against Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for negligence.
Locals also staged a protest against the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).

Anjum Parvez, MD, BMRCL said the kin of the deceased will be given 20 Lakh ex-gratia.
