Bihar MLC results/trends: NDA takes lead, RJD occupies 2nd spot; Congress too in race

As per latest reports, NDA has alone bagged half of the seats i.e 12 seats. RJD manages to hold ground with 6 seats while Congress and Independents are said to have got hold of 2 MLC seats.

New Delhi: Counting of votes for Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) seats is in advanced stage and results have started filtering in. According to latest reports, the BJP-JD (U) combine has yet again swept the MLC polls and look very much in command in the elections that were held for 24 seats. Polling for the two dozen seats were held on Monday.

As per latest reports, NDA has alone bagged half of the seats i.e 12 seats. RJD manages to hold ground with 6 seats while Congress and Independents are said to have got hold of 2 MLC seats.

The seats fell vacant as members retired from the Legislative Assembly. Elections in 5 seats were necessitated either because of death of 5 MLCs or their election to the Legislative Assembly.

The 24 seats which went to polls are Munger-Jamui-Lakhisarai-Sheikhpura, Katihar, Bhagalpur-Banka, Madhubani, Purnea-Araria-Kishanganj, east Champaran, Muzaffarpur, Nalanda, Gaya-Jahanabad-Arwal, Bhojpur-Buxar, Narwada, Rohtas-Kaimur, West Champaran, Darbhanga, Patna, Vaishali, Sitamarhi-Sheohar, Samastipur, Begusarai-Khagaria, Saharsa-Madhepura-Supaul, Saran, Siwan, Gopalganj.

Nearly 1.32 lakh votes were polled, sealing the fate of 185 candidates across 534 polling booths. Selected sections of society including MLAs, MPs, elected Panchayat members, ward councillors, district councillors are eligible to vote in the MLC elections.
