BJP launches ‘Gaurav Yatra’ in Gujarat, JP Nadda leads attack on Congress

The first Gaurav Yatra was carried out in 2002 after the communal riots, by then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Then, the second Gaurav Yatra was again organized in 2017 ahead of Assembly elections.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday launched the Gujarat Gaurav Yatra (GGY), hoping to woo electorate in a massive outreach plan ahead of state assembly elections.

The poll-bound state is witnessing heightened political activity with parties & their national leaders making a beeline for the state.

The yatra was flagged off from Mehsana district by BJP President JP Nadda and was attended by host of leaders including Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Singh Patel & several top leaders of the state.

Addressing the public gathering, JP Nadda said that the Gaurav Yatra was not just for Gujarat alone but for also ‘establishing the pride of India’. He also launched a scathing attack on the Congress and asked what it has done in many years of governance since Independence.

“People were left to their plight while projects were blocked for long. Now they are now themselves stuck,” Nadda said in a searing remark on grand old party & past Cong regimes.

The first Gaurav Yatra was carried out in 2002 after the communal riots, by then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. Then, the second Gaurav Yatra was again organized in 2017 ahead of Assembly elections.

Both Gaurav Yatra proved instrumental for the party in winning people’s support. In 2002, the party grabbed 127 out of 182 seats while occupied 99 seats in 2017 polls.

With BJP again launching its 3rd Gaurav Yatra, months ahead of Assembly polls, the message is clear – the saffron party wants to attain maximum political mileage while focusing its strategy on its star campaigner Narendra Modi.

Reports suggest that the party is planning Guarav Yatra on 5 different routes together. On Thursday, Home Minister will launch the Gaurav Yatra on 3 different routes including – 1 in Ahmedabad and 2 in Navsari district. The Yatras will be attended by Union Ministers and BJP’s central leaders as well as state leaders at different locations.
