Boycott Tanishq ad row: News about attack on Gujarat store fake, state govt orders case against ‘fake news spreaders’

Notably, Tanishq is already facing a backlash by a section of social media users for the advertisement, which shows a Muslim family organising a baby shower for their Hindu daughter-in-law.

New Delhi: Amidst the huge boycott Tanishq row, a report by a leading online portal had tanraclaimed that the store of jewellery brand Tanishq was attacked by a mob in Gandhidham town of Gujarat’s Kutch district on Monday night. However, this news is now being said to be false.

According to Kutch (East) Superintendent of Police Mayur Patil, two people had visited Tanishq store in Gandhidham on October 12 and sought a written apology from the owner in Gujarati. “The shop owner had fulfilled the demand but he was getting threat calls from Kutch. The news about the store being attacked are false,” clarified Patil.

Rahul Manuja, the manager of Tanishq store in Gandhidham, also dismissed reports of an attack. “The store has not been attacked. However, I received some threat calls. The police have supported us,” said Manuja.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Home Minister has said that case will be lodged against fake news spreaders and strict action will be taken against them. He also named NDTV, called the news ‘totally fake’ and claimed that it was a motivated attempt to incite violence in the state.
