BSF nabs Pakistani national who intruded into India to kill Nupur Sharma, knife & religious books recovered

The Pakistani man, during interrogation told the officials that he wanted to first visit Ajmer Sharif dargah and then attack Nupur Sharma over her controversial remarks on Prophet Muhammad.

New Delhi: A Pakistani national was apprehended by the Border Security Forces (BSF) last week from the India-Pakistan International Border in Rajasthan. The intruder crossed the border with an intention to kill suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

The 22-year-old Pakistani national was held in Sri Ganga nagar district of Rajasthan and is currently being interrogated by the joint team of BSF, Intelligence Bureau (IB) and other intel agencies.

The BSE officials said that the intruder was arrested on July 16 and was spotted by the patrolling team in a suspicious condition. He was immediately frisked & detained.

The BSF also recovered religious books & sharp weapons from his custody.

“We have found an 11-inch long knife, religious books, clothes, food and sand in the bag from his possession. He identified himself as Rizwan Ashraf, a native of Mandi Bahauddin city located in Northern Punjab of Pakistan,” a senior BSF official said.

The arrested Pakistani national has been handed over to local police for further probe. He was also produced before magistrate following which he was sent to 8 day police custody.

Rizwan reportedly attended a meeting of clerics in Pakistan, where he made up his mind to cross over and attack Nupur.

The suspended BJP spokesperson has been receiving rape & death threats for past few days, she said in court today and also sought prevention from arrest as her life is in danger from radicals & religious extremists.

Last month, a Hindu tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli was brutally murdered in Rajasthan’s Udaipur by 2 Islamist radicals who were furious over former’s support to Nupur Sharma.
