Celebrations in Droupadi Murmu’s ancestral village ahead of Prez results

The villagers are convinced that Odisha’s daughter will make it big today and will in all probability will be elevated to the country’s highest office.

New Delhi: Even as the nation awaits the announcement of India’s next President, the celebrations have kicked off early in NDA candidate Droupadi Murmu’s ancestral village.

Odisha’s Uperbeda, located almost 300 kilometres from capital Bhubaneswar, is the ancestral village of Droupadi Murmu. People have already got into celebratory mode and are making elaborate preparations to celebrate the historic moment, when the nation elects its first tribal woman President.

Odisha’s daughter makes villagers proud

It was this tribal village where Murmu was born and brought up. Today, the villagers are elated and overjoyed with the ‘daughter of soil’ getting ready for the highest constitutional post of the country.

The villagers are convinced that Odisha’s daughter will make it big today and will in all probability will be elevated to the country’s highest office. They are planning to celebrate the day as Vijay Diwas and have plans to distribute laddos in the entire village. Locals say that about 20,000 laddoos have been prepared to celebrate the special occasion.

Murmu celebration

Houses have been cleaned & decked up with lights & flowers, streets have been spruced up and traditional folklore dancers ready for a gala evening as India’s next President is announced by today evening. Santhali dance performers have also geared up for the occasion.

Murmu may have left the village and migrated to towns & now the national capital to charge of public offices but she still owns an ancestral home in the village. The house belongs to her father and is currently inhabited by her nephew Dularam Tudu.

The trader community is also in high spirits as they believe that Murmu will emerge as the winner. They have also made plans of distributing sweets and hope to distribute it more than 40,000 people in Rairangpur.
