New Delhi: Ahead of the completion of the 75th year of independence, the Centre launched the ”Har Ghar Trianga” campaign and also made changes to the Flag Code of India 2022. The new change will allow people to fly the flag both day and night. Earlier, the rule was that the tricolour can only be flown from sunrise to sunset.
Under the Har Ghar Trianga campaign, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has requested Indians to hoist the flag at every home in the country from August 13 to August 15. The campaign is a part of the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ to commemorate 75 years of a progressive independent India.
The Flag Code of India, 2002 has been further amended through an order on July 20, 2022, and class (xi) ”where the flag is displayed in open or displayed on the house of a member of the public, it may be flown day and night”.
Reportedly, the government also allowed people to make the National Flag by using cotton/polyester/wool/silk khadi bunting.
Important things to keep remember before hoisting the national flag:
1. The Tricolour should not be flown upside down.
2. The ratio of the rectangular flag shape should be 3 (width) : 2 (height).
3. There is no mention that a flag can be made of plastic.
4. Legal can be initiated for an offence to write anything on the flag.
5. The flag should not touch the ground.
6. The Tricolour should be hoisted above all the other flags on any occasion.
7. Flags should never be used to make any clothes.
8. A torn, damaged, and faded flag should not be hoisted.
