Chennai Rohini theatre hogging limelight for wrong reasons, what we know so far

Expressing their concern, the Theatre management clarified that the reason for prohibiting the entry of the family was not due to caste discrimination but because the movie they purchased a ticket to has a U/A certificate.

New Delhi: A massive row has erupted after a family belonging to a tribal community was reportedly barred from entering the cinema hall despite having proper tickets. The shameful incident happened at the Rohini Theatre of Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The video of the act spread on social media like wildfire, and outraged netizens began to call for the boycott of the cinema hall.

In the video, the theater employees can be seen dismissing the women and children, who are showing their tickets. While others are walking inside without any issues.
In the viral clip, passers-by were also heard imploring the theatre employees to let the family inside.

It is alleged that the family was stopped because they belong to the Narikuravar community.  However, the family was let in to watch the Tamil movie Pathu Thala after some time.

Rohini Theatre’s statement 

After the incident gathered much attention, Rohini Silver Screen Theatre shared a press release on its social media account.

Expressing their concern, the Theatre management clarified that the reason for prohibiting the entry of the family was not due to caste discrimination but because the movie they purchased a ticket to has a U/A certificate.

As per the law, children above 12 years of age are allowed to watch movies with a U/A certificate under the supervision of their parents. However, none of the four children in the family was above the age of 12.

Rohini Theatre also released another video, in which the family was enjoying the film Pathu Thala.
