Clamour over vaccine shortage peaks but Delhi & Mumbai still have over 5 lakh vaccines left

Centre has so far provided more than 20 crore vaccine doses (20,76,10,230) to States/UTs, Free of Cost. Of this, the total consumption, calculated based on average up to 16th May 2021, including wastages is 18,71,13,705 doses.

New Delhi: Amid the escalating controversy & political bickering over Covid-19 vaccine shortage, the Centre on Monday released a comprehensive data of vaccine supply, its inoculation and how much in pipeline. It’s an attempt by the Centre to quell unnecessary controversy and unwarranted claims made by different state governments over vaccine shortage.

In recent times, the rate of vaccination has seen huge decline from 40 lakh per day to about 6 lakh/day, nonetheless, the states claim of ‘no vaccines with them’ looks more of a hypothesis than reality.

Vaccine allocation to states: How much they consumed, how much left

In the comprehensive set of data, the Centre has provided data of vaccine supplied to states, doses administered by respective government, the remaining stock with states and also how much they are about to receive in next few days.

More than 2 crore COVID Vaccine doses (2,04,96,525) are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
Furthermore, nearly 3 lakh (2,94,660) vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be received by the States/UTs within the next 3 days.

This speaks volumes about state government’s ‘shoddy’ implementation of vaccination drive. Vaccine wastage is also a stark reality at a time when the nation is being ravaged by Covid. Capt Amardinder Singh ruled Punjab stood at top in terms of vaccine wastage. Also, attempt to score political points by some particular state governments can’t be ruled out as they keep on reiterating vaccine shortage but still haven’t exhausted their vaccine lot yet.
