Close contest in Uttarakhand but Cong has edge over BJP, says ABP CVoter exit poll

According to the ABP CVoter exit poll, the state will retain its tradition of ‘change of ruling party’ after every 5 years.

New Delhi: In the hilly state of Uttarakhand, the exit poll numbers are as divided as the mood of public, gauged on earlier occasions. A couple of pollsters have come out with projected numbers in Uttarakhand.

According to the ABP CVoter exit poll, the state will retain its tradition of ‘change of ruling party’ after every 5 years. If numbers are to believed, Pushkar Singh Dhami-led BJP govt is all set to get unseated by the main challenger Congress. Uttarakhand, since its formation in 2000, has never re-elected the same party to power.

Congress is seen emerging as the single largest party in Uttarakhand with 32-38 seats while BJP is also inching closer to the half-way mark with 26-32 seats but not enough to retain power.

The magic number in the 70-member Uttarakhand Assembly is 36 seats and BJP is clearly falling short of required numbers.

BJP seemed to have lost the plot because of indecisive leadership. It changed 3 Chief Minister in just a couple of 6 months and this didn’t go down well with the electorate. Party sought to re-build confidence within voters but changing CMs backfired.

Other issues that apparently worked against BJP were revocation of Devasthanam Board (though restored later) and the migration of hilly population to plains.

Kejriwal-led AAP also took political plunge in the state, with tall promises of clean governance, corruption free administration and freebies but all that failed to strike chord with voters. It may or may not open its account in the state.
