New Delhi: With the onset of Shravan month, hundreds & thousands of Kanwariyas have started Kanwar yatra on foot and are arriving in the holy town of Haridwar.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reached the holy city on Wednesday to take stock of arrangements & also Kanwariya’s ‘welcome on arrival’ by the city administration.
He greeted the hordes of Kanwariyas at the Omsetu Ghat this morning and gave them a warm welcome. The Chief Minister washed their feet and garlanded them while Yatris reached the city in hordes to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva & Ma Ganga.
He also handed over clothing & Rudraksh mala to Kanwariyas. This heart-touching gesture of Dhami won applause & appreciation from all around.

Dhami told the press that the state administration has gone all out to ensure smooth & hassle free yatra for the Kanwariyas.
“From the entry point of state’s border to the pooja venue, adequate arrangements have been made for their stay and meal. Certain portion of highways have also been reserved for the foot march of Kanwariyas,” he told the press.
Prior to this, Haridwar DM Vinay Shankar Pandey visited the holy spot at Ganga ghat and reviewed the arrangements. Kanwar Yatra usually happens in two stages – first stage is little slow but after ‘Panchak’ it gathers steam as ‘Daank Kanwar’ also begin their arduous journey to holy town.
Dhami’s appeal to Kanwariyas
Before the start of Kanwar Yatra, the Chief Minister had also made a fervent appeal to Kanwariyas to plant a sapling in their name.
“Before returning to home towns after collecting water of holy Ganga in Haridwar, they should plant a sapling each in the state in the name of Lord Shiva,” CM Dhami had said.
The Chief Minister had directed the officials also to identify portion of land for the drive and also ensure that the plants survive for long term.
