CM Yogi provides Rs 10 lakh financial help to families of journalists who died due to Covid-19

Some prominent journalists included senior journalist of Times of India Lucknow and former bureau chief of India Today Subhash Mishra and TV today journalist Rohit Sardana also.

New Delhi: Families of about 55 journalists were honoured by UP CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday and were extended a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh as a mark of respect to the scribes for their commendable work during Covid-19 pandemic. Some prominent journalists included senior journalist of Times of India Lucknow and former bureau chief of India Today Subhash Mishra and TV today journalist Rohit Sardana also. The Rs 10 lakh cheque of financial help was distributed by CM Yogi himself at a function in Lucknow today.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was accompanied by India TV Editor-In-Chief and Chairman Rajat Sharma. The families of scribes were given a cheque of Rs 10 lakh each.

Through this initiative, UP government seeks to encourage and honour the tireless and unparalleled contribution of journalists in spreading awareness and highlighting the pressing issues during the Covid-pandemic.

During second wave of pandemic, many journalists across the country got infected on duty and lost their lives, leaving their families helpless.

Addressing the event, India TV Editor-In-Chief and Chairman Rajat Sharma said that he had urged UP CM for vaccination policy for journalists to which the latter readily agreed. Free vaccination drive was undertaken for journalists in Noida, under which over 25,000 journalists were inoculated.

CM Yogi had this announcement of financial assistance, a month ago, on the occasion of Hindi Journalism Day. He said that UP government was committed to providing all support and will continue to encourage journalists.

“During such challenging and testing times, all the journalists and media workers have risked their lives to bring to us all the relevant and authentic information. They have worked 24×7 which is commendable,” he had said.
