Congress leaders call out Imran Khan’s bluff for seeking TV debate with PM Modi to resolve differences

Khan also happens to be the first from Pakistan’s top-notch leadership in over two decades to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin

New Delhi: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday stated that he would like to have a television debate with his Indian counterpart Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The cricketer-turned-politician said that this method of ‘conversation’ would be a positive effort for the people in the subcontinent, as a debate would help to resolve various issues between the two countries.

“I would love to debate with Narendra Modi on TV,” he told Russia Today, while also contending that India had become a hostile country, and hence its trade with the other nations had become minimal.

Khan made the statement during an interview with Russia’s state-run television network RT just before his maiden two-day visit to Moscow.

Khan also happens to be the first from Pakistan’s top-notch leadership in over two decades to hold talks with Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.

Have a look at Shashi Tharoor’s reaction on Twitter:

Reacting to Imran Khan’s remarks, Congress leader and MP from Thiruvananthapuram Mr Tharoor tweeted, “Dear @ImranKhanPTI, agree that ‘jaw-jaw is better than war-war’, but no issues are ever resolved in Indian television debates, only exacerbated! And some of our anchors would be happy to ignite World War III if it would increase their TRPs…”.

Other Congress leaders also took a jibe on Pak PM:

Congress leader Manish Tiwari slammed the Pakistan Prime Minister over his statement of wanting to have a debate with PM Modi.

“Seriously? How will a TV debate lead to a cessation of Pak Sponsored Terror? @ImranKhanPTI,” Manish Tewari tweeted

Meanwhile, Senior Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi also took to his twitter handle and wrote, “Irrespective of pol differences, I wld not like my #PM to debate #PakPM cos (1)pak wants false equivalence; v must avoid (2) wld give #pak a high moral ground despite being huge exporter of terrorism (3) gives it enhanced legitimacy intlly which it desperately seeks”.
