The incident is of Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar area. Delhi Police personnel stopped a vehicle driven by Aman Kalra at one of the barricades at around 11 PM and threatened him to issue challan for not wearing mask.

Law saviours turn law-breakers

Aman Kalra, in reply to cops, gestured at the other police constables who were sitting nearby and not wearing masks. He however pointed that he was wearing mask and had just lowered his mask below the nose for inhaling fresh air.

He also showed them all the valid car papers.

Saurabh Sharma, the learned counsel of Aman Kalra has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the high-handedness and non-action of police on wrongdoing of its own staff.

The petitioner says that his apparent questioning of police left them infuriated. They warned him of serious consequences. In the meantime, a policeman who was drinking near the checkpost, came charging him. He snatched his phone and also slapped him.

‘Dilli Police, Dil ki Police’….only on paper

Petitioner dialed 100 and lodged complaint. PCR came to the rescue but to no avail. He alleges that the PCR van didn’t take any action, rather it helped the drunken cop flee the spot, which had become a spot for onlookers by now.

In his petition, he alleges that he was taken to AIIMS for MLC and when nothing was found, the cops impose a facemask challan to him, that too next day. He was also subjected to harassment at the police station for long hours.

Delhi HC seeks status report from Delhi Police

Mr Kalra moved a petition in Delhi High Court against the excesses of police in such situations and also over inaction on their own wrongdoings.

Taking note of the incident, Justice Anoop Bhambhani has asked Delhi Police to file status report on the accusations against Delhi Police and also the action taken against accused policeman.

The matter has been posted for next hearing on December 18.
