‘Could have been more vocal on Bilkis Bano…’: MP Shashi Tharoor gets critical of Congress

He added that avoiding taking a stand on some issues, to alienate what is assumed to be the sentiments of the majority only helps BJP.

New Delhi: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor addressed the party’s ongoing 85th plenary session in Raipur. Tharoor is known to be critical of his party as well and taking on to Congress, he asked the party to be more vocal about issues like ‘cow vigilantism’ and bulldozer demolitions. He mentioned that the public is looking to them for support.

Tharoor asked party members to be clear in their ideological stance for ‘inclusive India’. He added that avoiding taking a stand on some issues, to alienate what is assumed to be the sentiments of the majority only helps BJP.

He mentioned the issues of Bilkis Bano, attacks on Christian churches, murders in the name of cow vigilantism, bulldozer demolition, and others and said that Congress could have been more vocal.

Tharoor also urged to make efforts to strengthen the ‘secular foundations’ of the country and lauded the ‘success’ of the recently concluded Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra.

On the bulldozer issue, Congress MP said that the party has been cornering BJP for allegedly inducing religious tensions with the party’s ‘demolition action policy’ for illegal constructions and encroachments on governments’ lands.

Congress’ 3-day 85th plenary session is going on in Raipur, Chattisgarh. Speaking at the event, various senior party leaders took a jibe at BJP. Sonia Gandhi also alleged BJP-RSS fueled hatred and captured institutions.

At the event, former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi also hinted at her retirement from politics when she said that she is happy that her political career could conclude with Bharat Jodo Yatra.
