Delhi’s Budget Session to begin on March 17, Kailash Gahlot to present budget

Minister Kailash Gahlot will present the budget of the Delhi government in the Assembly after former Finance Minster Manish Sisodia’s arrest in the Excise Policy case.

New Delhi: Delhi Assembly’s Budget Session will begin on March 17. Minister Kailash Gahlot will present the budget of the Delhi government in the Assembly after former Finance Minster Manish Sisodia’s arrest in the Excise Policy case.

In a statement a couple of days ago, Gahlot said that the Delhi government is working on a ‘war footing’ to present a ‘citizen-centric and progressive budget’. He assured that the budget will be a ‘milestone’ in making Delhi a ‘world-class city’. He also called it a ‘people-friendly’ budget.

Amid Sisodia’s arrest by CBI on February 26, Delhi’s Deputy CM holding 18 ministries resigned from the government. His 18 portfolios were distributed to Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar Anand. Gahlot, Delhi’s Transport Minister, took the charge of finance and planning ahead of the Budget Session.

In the case, the court allowed CBI to have Manish Sisodia on remand for a couple more days for questioning. His bail plea will be heard on March 10.

MANISH-SISODIA

Delhi has been a hot arena of politics lately as it saw a clash between AAP and BJP on Manish Sisodia’s arrest and a ruckus during the election of the Standing Committee of the MCD. The MCD Mayor and Standing Committee elections witnessed a fistfight between AAP and BJP councillors.

The capital city also saw protests by Aam Aadmi Party workers against Sisodia’s arrest and on March 5, nine opposition leaders, including CM Arvind Kejriwal, wrote a letter to PM Modi opposing the arrest and alleged misuse of central agencies.
