Delhi’s Jama Masjid bans entry of Girls/Women ‘alone’: DCW chief calls the decision “wrong”, issues notice to Imam

Jama Masjid bans girls/women entry to the mosque alone: Mosque management said only girls and women who are accompanied by their husbands or families will be allowed inside.

New Delhi: Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal today issued notice to the Imam of Jama Masjid after the mosque administration issued an order, imposing a ban on the entry of girls/women coming alone or in a group.

Swati Maliwal called the decision to stop the entry of women into the Jama Masjid absolutely wrong. She said women also have an equal right to worship. She further said that no one has the right to ban the entry of women like this. (She tweeted in Hindi)

PRO Sabiullah Khan said, there is no restriction on girls/women who come with families. Also, there is no restriction on married couples either.

He said when women/ girls come also to Jama Masjid-improper acts are done, and videos are shot so to stop such activities ban has been imposed.
