New Delhi: Droupadi Murmu is hogging the limelight after being BJP finalized her as its candidate for Presidential elections, and now the stirring images from an Odisha temple has aroused fresh curiosity among people about her humble origins.
The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA)’s candidate was seen sweeping the floors of an Odisha temple, a day after being nominated as the Presidential candidate. The former Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu had gone to Rairangpur Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj today morning for offering prayers.
Murmu was filmed sweeping the floor at the temple before offering prayers. She also visited a tribal place of worship called ‘Jahira’, reports said.

Accompanied by friends and some family members, the 64-year-old visited temples of Lord Jagannath, Hanuman and Shiva in Rairangpur, the place from where she first got elected as MLA in 2000.
The NDA candidate is headed to Delhi and is likely to file her nominations on Saturday.
The visuals of her sweeping the temple floor has become a major talking point on the social media as well, as people with such ‘ground connect’ and tribal background hardly make it to the top office. People are overwhelmed with her taking the broom and cleaning the temple premises on her own.
She also visited the Prajapita Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwavidyalaya in Rairangpur, where she was accorded a warm welcome.
Droupadi Murmu is a native of Odisha and belongs to Santhal community of the state. Her neighbours are elated & euphoric about her nomination as the Presidential candidate and said that it will be dream come true for the people of Mayurbhanj.
PM’s praise for Murmu
Given the clear majority of BJP in both members of the house, Murmu is likely to sail through easily. Numbers are stacked heavily in ruling NDA’s favour and that will ensure her victory in upcoming Presidential race.
