Prior to his current marriage, Harish Salve was previously married to Meenakshi, his first wife. After more than three decades of marriage, Salve and Meenakshi divorced in June 2020. The couple has two daughters, Sakshi and Saaniya, according to reports. Additionally, Salve had later married Caroline Brossard in 2020 before entering into his latest marriage.
The Supreme Court lawyer has been involved in numerous significant cases, including the high-profile one of Kulbhushan Jadhav, who received a death sentence from a Pakistani military court on spying charges. Salve represented Jadhav and astonishingly charged only ₹1 as his legal fee. This gesture garnered immense praise for him.
Salve’s client roster includes prominent entities like Tata Group, Reliance Industries led by Mukesh Ambani, and ITC Group. Additionally, he appeared in the Krishna Godavari Basin gas dispute case involving Reliance Natural Resources Ltd, which was led by Anil Ambani.
Salve received the prestigious Padma Bhushan award, one of India’s highest honors, in 2015. During the same year, he took on the high-profile case of Salman Khan, who had been sentenced to five years in jail for a hit-and-run incident. However, Salve’s representation resulted in Khan’s acquittal from all charges, as decided by the Bombay High Court in December 2015.
In 2018, Salve represented the Union government in the Supreme Court for the Cauvery water dispute.
Having served as the Solicitor General of India from November 1999 to November 2002, Salve was appointed as the esteemed Queen’s Counsel for the courts of Wales and England in January.
Salve obtained his LLB degree from Nagpur University and became a senior advocate at the Delhi High Court in 1992, eventually assuming the role of Solicitor General of India.
