Ex-Punjab CM Amarinder Singh to join BJP next week, says PLC spokesperson

In major political development in Punjab, Ex-Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will join the BJP in the state next week. 

New Delhi: In major political development in Punjab, Ex-Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh will join the BJP in the state next week. The latest development was confirmed by the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) spokesperson. According to media reports, Singh will also merge his newly formed party with the BJP.

It is reported that he will join the BJP in presence of party JP Nadda and other leaders in Delhi.

However, there is no official information from Amarinder Singh. Recently, Singh met with the BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on September 12. He tweeted about the same.

On Twitter, he wrote, ”Discussed various issues pertaining to National security, the rising cases of narco-terrorism in Punjab and the future roadmap for the overall holistic development of Punjab.”

Notably, Singh formed the Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) last year after leaving the Congress last year. Captain served as the Punjab CM from 2002 to 2007, followed by the year from 2017 to 2021.

Singh made his political debut in 1980 with the help of his school friend Rajiv Gandhi by winning the Lok Sabha. In his political career, he won the Punjab Vidhan Sabha election five times. He served the people of Patiala (Urban) thrice, Talwandi Sabo and Samana once each.

He also served as the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee three times — from 1999 to 2022, 2010 to 2013 and from 2015 to 2017.
