Fresh stone-pelting in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area, cops probe reason behind clash

Police teams were dispatched soon and brought the situation under control. Cops are stationed in the area and are patrolling to keep ruffians at bay.

New Delhi: Jahangirpuri area in North Delhi saw fresh incidents of violence & clashes reportedly between two communities in J-block on Tuesday night.

The incident has triggered panic in the area as communal clashes had singed this area about a month ago, following stone pelting on Hanuman Jayanti procession. However, the police have ruled out any communal angle in last night’s stone pelting.

According to reports, it started with an altercation between two groups and snowballed into a major brawl. The violence began after two groups took to stone-pelting at each other. In the video, people can be seen running helter-skelter for saving themselves.

It all started with verbal duel between some people. A few youths in drunken state came looking for their rival faction. As they couldn’t find them, they started hurling stones at houses & vehicles. In the CCTV footage, they can be seen throwing stones at youths hiding behind parked cars. A number of vehicles were injured in the violent brawl.

Two persons identified as Vishal and Veeru have been detained by the cops.

DCP North West Usha Rangnani told media persons that the incident of quarrel and stone-pelting took place in PS Mahendra Park. One youth identified as Zahir and friends came in search of two boys for their argument which took place two days back. They were allegedly drunk.

Jahangirpuri witnessed clashes in April also

Months ago, Jahangirpuri saw communal clashes in the same area on April 16 after some miscreants pelted stones at Hanuman Jayanti procession. A full blown clash broke out between two communities and two sides resorted to violent stone-pelting leaving 8 people injured. Md Ansar was named & captured by the cops as prime accused.
